Where it all started

The Free Mock MMI originally started as the ‘Niesh Mock MMI’ with our amazing sponsor – Niesh. We were two students who wanted to make a difference to ensure that others would not have to pay hundreds and thousands of dollars for preparation for the MMI.

2017

The first workshop run by Michaela and Vanamali among their 2nd year exams. It was a year of uncertainty and excitement as the project went from a thought experiment to a real life event. We were able to offer spots to a 114 students and the slots were gone within 7 minutes.

2018

The second workshop was still run by only two students: Michaela and Vanamali. However, as the system was set up, it was now much easier. We were able to increase our student numbers from 114 to 166 and this was the first year that our sign-ups crashed due to the high internet traffic – we were not expecting this many people to try and sign up!

2019

The third workshop was run with the help of an amazing executive team, resulting in a much easier workload on the individuals. We improved our sign-up sheets, brought in more teachers for the initial teaching session and increased our numbers by expanding the number of question stations.

2020

Due to the impact of Covid-19, we decided that this year’s workshop will be run online in the form of a collection of resources and video

2021

Due to a number of consequences of COVID-19, such as difficulties finding a physical venue, and that the official MMI was to be held online, we decided to hold our mock MMI online too. This was via Discord and was an enormous success. We encountered many new challenges and difficulties, some small, some big, some expected and some unexpected. We had roughly a hundred volunteers and were able to provide this valuable resource for more than two hundred students. A massive thank you to everyone involved!
